In the world of superheros, it’s a received wisdom that, unless you’re uncle Ben, if you die, you’re categorically not dead.

That’s just the way things are. I guess writers have commitment issues and producers want to milk their cash cows for everything they’ll yield.

With all of that said, the death of Wolverine in Logan seemed pretty definitive. It was the perfect end to a long and arduous franchise and we all miss Hugh Jackman donning the claws terribly.

*As in we miss him terribly, not that he was terrible at his job…*

However, during this week’s episode of Sunday Today, Jackman spoke to host Willie Geist about the possibility of Wolverine coming back to the silver screen.

He said:

Oh, Wolverine will be back. Someone’s going to buy him, I don’t know.

When asked if it would be him who’d fill the role, he responded:

“No, but Ryan [Reynolds] is relentless. He keeps coming back to me in all these ways, shapes and forms.

I just said, ‘You know, I just don’t think the world really wants to see Deadpool with Wolverine.’ Maybe a cameo from Deadpool? I just think it runs over it for Deadpool.

Naturally, people disagreed…

Reynolds spoke to Entertainment Weekly about how desperate he is to see Jackman appear again as Wolverine:

I think convincing Hugh of that would be a near-impossible feat, but there’s no human being I love more than Hugh Jackman in that universe, and equally so as a friend. He’s just the best.

I already miss him as Logan, so I’m one of those guys that whenever I see him, I’m like, ‘Come on, man. Just one more. Come on. We’ll do it together. It’ll be fun. Come on! On three. Here we go, together. One, two, three, together,’ and it’s always just me saying it.

Taking on the role of Wolverine after Jackman must feel like how George Lazenby felt when he replaced Sean Connery as James Bond – I do not envy the person who takes his mantle.

Well, I’m sure they’ll be paid a lot of money.
