Throw a stick around the bargain shelves of HMV and you’ll get around ten generic shoot’em ups featuring Keanu Reeves as the titular ‘man with gun and cut lip’.
With that, no-one would have predicted that John Wick would be liked by anyone, save a few masochists, but it absolutely was liked by almost everyone who saw it.
John Wick 2 was much the same, bringing with it joy and gratuitous fight scenes but with the twist of being shot and directed by a man who actually seemed to care about the art of film and by the looks of things, the third instalment is going to carry on that tradition.
The description for the film reads:
“In this third installment of the adrenaline-fueled action franchise, super-assassin John Wick (Keanu Reeves) returns with a $14 million price tag on his head and an army of bounty-hunting killers on his trail. After killing a member of the shadowy international assassin’s guild, the High Table, John Wick is excommunicado, but the world’s most ruthless hit men and women await his every turn.“
But when you watch the films, you can’t help that think it all seems too good/brutal to be true. Obviously we know it’s not true, since Keanu Reeves isn’t actually John Wick and he doesn’t kill people for real, but just the way he moves when he’s taking out those hoards of anonymous henchmen – something doesn’t seem right.
Shockingly though, Keanu does all of that for real, as showcased in one of his weirdly terrifying, yet somehow erotic, training videos…
Credit where it’s due, I’ve never had a go at that but it looks like bloody hard work.
You’ll be able to watch John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum come the 17th of May this year.
