Studios are pumping out horror and thriller shows and films like there’s no tomorrow, right now. It’s a Tumblr girl’s wet dream but you’re currently reading the words from the guy who used to be scared of the dragon in Shrek. None of this sits well with me because I’m a little coward.

With that said, part of me wants to test myself and I’ve been looking at The Haunting Of Hill House, wondering whether I should go for it, but ultimately knowing that it would be a horrible choice for me to make.

Maybe I should go for something slightly less intense, and Netflix’s Bird Box looks like the perfect fit.

It follows Sandra Bullock in a post-apocalyptic world as she struggles to keep herself and her two children alive, with Earth plagued by beasts [???] that, if you see them, show you your worst fear, leading to you killing yourself.

Despite not being released yet, it’s received some impressive accolades, with Rotten Tomatoes tweeting that it’s like a cross between the work of Stephen King and A Quiet Place. High praise indeed…

The description reads:

When a mysterious force decimates the world’s population, only one thing is certain: if you see it, you take your life.

Facing the unknown, Malorie finds love, hope and a new beginning only for it to unravel. Now she must flee with her two children down a treacherous river to the one place left that may offer sanctuary. But to survive, they’ll have to undertake the perilous two-day journey blindfolded.

Academy Award winner Sandra Bullock leads an all-star cast that includes Trevante Rhodes, with Sarah Paulson, and John Malkovich in #BirdBox, a compelling new thriller from Academy Award winner Susanne Bier.”

It does look pretty scary actually. Maybe I shouldn’t watch it..?

Den Of Geek also piped in, saying Bird Box is a “neat looking horror that looks like it might be the new A Quiet Place“.

Bird Box will be available to watch on Netflix come the 21st of December. Proper Christmas viewing.
