The eagerly-anticipated final season of Game of Thrones may not be out until the first half of 2019 (April, our ravens are telling us) but if you think that’s going to stop us from predicting what to expect then you’ve got another thing coming!

Filming on season eight wrapped up back in July, with several key cast members celebrating the landmark moment. Maisie Williams, who plays Arya Stark in the show, posted a picture to Instagram wearing blood-stained trainers with the caption: “Goodbye Belfast. Goodbye Arya. Goodbye Game of Thrones,” while on-screen sister Sophie Turner (Sansa Stark) chopped off her Boudica-esque auburn locks for one last time.

While most fans will be preparing for a number of gut-wrenching deaths in the final season, producers and cast members have remained tight-lipped over the fate of many of the show’s most beloved characters, including one Ser Jaime Lannister.

Over the course of the show, Jaime, played by Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, has transformed from morally corrupt Kingslayer to the noble knight we all knew he could be (he’s still incestuous, but then again this is Westeros, who isn’t?), but if the latest fan theory is to be believed Cersei’s dearest brother will make the ultimate sacrifice and save Bran Stark.

If you cast you minds back to the close of season seven, Jaime travelled away from Cersei to join the fight in the North against the White Walkers.

It’s on this perilous journey where Reddit user JackStargaryen suggests Jaime will sacrifice himself to save Bran.

They said:

‘Jaime will die defending one of the Stark children (most likely Bran) and die in the arms of Brienne.

‘Brienne (possibly Pregnant with Jaime’s child) stays in KL to continue to defend Sansa or becomes Lady of Stormlands in memory of Renly.’

If Jaime were to save Bran it would see events come full circle, as in the very first episode of the show Jaime pushed the young Stark boy out of a tower at Winterfell which cost him the use of his legs.

JackStargaryen’s prediction about Brienne would also please a number of fans who have been desperate to see her and Jaime get it on, but like most things in Game of Thrones it will be marred by tragedy.

While it’s all just speculation at the moment, Coster-Waldau has confirmed that Jaime will be up against it in the upcoming season.

“For sure, we see him head north. He might be eaten by dragons, you never know,” he told The Huffington Post. “Or he might find the love of his life and suddenly he’s like, “God, this is it. No more.”

What ultimately happens is anyone’s guess, but what we can be sure about is a barrage of constant fan theories between now and when it finishes and the fact that it’s undoubtedly going to be the best damn final season in the history of TV.

There’s a prediction for you, folks.
