Tommy Shelby is a man walking among mere mortals.

Cillian Murphy’s effortlessly cool, effortlessly charismatic character is a big part of the success of Peaky Blinders, and just one of the reasons why I’m absolutely obsessed.

If you remember at the end of last season, the Peaky Blinders had managed to oust the Mafia and the brilliant Luca Changretta, leaving the gang to expand their business in the US and for Tommy to make waves in the political landscape.

However, details about the upcoming season – season five – have been few and far between. Until now.

The BBC has shared the first footage from the upcoming series, along with many of its other 2019 dramas, and the brief but explosive tease has really got fans talking.

I’ll shut up. Check it out below:

OK, now lets dissect it.

Firstly – and you better not blink because you’ll miss it – there’s definitely what looks like the aftermath of a deadly car explosion involving Tommy.

Seconds after a shot of a burning car is shown, Tommy is seen looking distraught as he appears to cradle a body in his arms.

Not Arthur, please, not Arthur.

Or is it his son? Now I’ve said it it definitely looks like it could be a kid…

Fans have been left desperate for more, tweeting:

The trailer comes after creator Steven Knight previously revealed his vision for season five in an interview with Birmingham Mail.

He explained:

“We are going into the 30’s now. There is so much stuff happening, so why not finish the job? The depression and the rise of fascism form part of the storyline.

It is setting those things up. In the 30’s across Europe and Britain there was the rise of fascism.

In my mind [the show] ends first air raid siren in the Second World War.

My mum told a story about the air raid siren going off and her coming in, pulling the blankets off, and saying ‘come on, the buggers are here”.

Forget Game Of Thrones – 2019 is all about Peaky Blinders.
