The whole Christmas advert craze has gone a little bit mad recently.

I suppose you have to look at the biggest culprits, John Lewis, who have created a new kind of buzz in the lead up to Christmas.

Since they’ve introduced their adverts – which are usually made up of a mix of cute kids/animals and a cover of a classic song – the likes of Aldi and Sainsbury’s have all jumped on the Christmas advert bandwagon (or sleigh).

But now it’s the turn of the Golden Arches themselves, McDonald’s, whose #ReindeerReady TV advert is already being labelled as the best of 2018.

Ahh, melts your heart, doesn’t it?

The advert stats with Santa and his reindeer delivering presents on Christmas Eve, which is something he does most years.

But while Father Christmas enjoys tucking into the mince pies left out for him, poor old Rudolph and his pals are saddened to find no carrots put out for them.

As each house comes and goes, the reindeer are left feeling more and more dejected at their lack of treats.

However, Santa spots a McDonald’s down on the street below and sneakily stocks up on bags of carrots from them.

I suppose it’s all part of Maccies’ efforts to revamp its unhealthy image, but come on, who’s going in there for a carrot?

Reindeer Treats’ (or carrots to you and I) will be sold in restaurants throughout the country this festive season- helping families get ‘Reindeer Ready.’

It’s a clever marketing idea to stop people focusing on the whole burger and chips thing, and many people are calling it the best advert of 2018.

But the news doesn’t stop there, folks.

As part of the ‘Reindeer Ready’ push, McDonald’s has also created a magical Snapchat filter. Users will find their face transformed in to reindeer and will be prompted to try and catch as many falling carrots as possible in a fun game exclusive to the festive season.

The Snapchat filters are available for customers visiting McDonald’s restaurants.

Ben Fox, Marketing Director at McDonald’s, said:

“Our new Reindeer Ready campaign aims to remind customers that we are there when they need us at this time of year – from a Christmas shopping coffee break to a pre-party burger or even a mid-present delivery carrot stop.

“From TV to OOH, social to in-store, we will make sure there is a little reindeer magic for everyone this Christmas.”

Fair play to McDonald’s for the advert, it’s better than most this year.

It’s still got a long way to go to beat Aldi’s Kevin the Carrot one, though.

It’s an anthropomorphic carrot!
