A gunman opened fire in a bar in Thousand Oaks, California, at 23:20 local time last night, killing 13 people.
Reports say that he started by shooting the bouncer, before moving inside the club, using smoke devices and then spraying the dance floor with bullets.
Officials say that the gunman was found dead inside the Borderline Bar and Grill but they do not yet know his motives. At least 10 more people were injured, as there were around 200 people inside the bar.
Amongst those killed was Ventura Sheriff’s Sergeant Ron Helus, a 29-year-old war veteran who was shot several times, before being declared dead later in a hospital.
