Honestly when I saw the title for this trailer, I thought they’d remade that 90s Disney film The Rocketeer, where Timothy Dalton was a Nazi actor. Naturally, I was pretty confused it more followed Elton John’s life and career than the 194os vigilante romp.
Elton John burst onto the scene in the 70s, and has stayed at the top ever since. He was making music in the 60s, mind, but he really came into his element in the latter decade.
In his long career, Elton has managed 57 top 40 hits, which is second only to the king of rock himself, Elvis Presley. Impressive tally from the Middlesex boy.
And now there’s a film coming out about the singer, starring Taron Egerton, of Kingsman fame.
Funnily, it looks like Taron’s wearing the same makeup and glasses as he did when he played Eddie the Eagle, which is handy for him, but the film actually looks pretty good – dare I say, better than the upcoming Queen one, Bohemian Rhapsody.
The trailer features a voice-over from the Welsh actor, as we see brief snippets of the film, including his rise to game and his struggle with the ‘party lifestyle’.
“There are moments in a rock star’s life. That define who he is. Where there was darkness there is now you, and it’s going to be a wild ride.”
We then hear him sing Rocketman, which is fun. Have a watch…
It ends with the quote:
“Based on a true fantasy”
A release date is yet to be revealed for the film, so you’ll just have to wait.
I’ll leave you with another quote, this one from Elton John himself:
“Sometimes when I’m flying over the Alps I think, ‘That’s like all the cocaine I sniffed.’“
