Escape rooms are the latest faddy activity that members of senior management seem to think make for great team building exercises.

Traditionally it was always paintball and bowling (going back further I think managers just accepted that employees didn’t have to always get on) but nowadays it’s all the rage to stick a load of co-workers into an even smaller space than they’re used to being in and letting them squabble over how to get out.

For those of you who haven’t done one before, they’re essentially an immersive puzzle with a load of clues littered around them telling you how to escape in the allotted time. They’re usually quite enjoyable until Joe the sales director takes over and sucks all the fun out of them.

Not wanting to miss out on a money-making opportunity, Hollywood has jumped on their immense popularity and produced a film, called, you guessed it, Escape Room.

Having said that, this isn’t quite your standard escape room.

The upcoming psychological-horror flick puts six strangers into a room with the promise of $1,000,000 to whoever can make it out.

As you’d expect, though, the unfortunate captives are forced to take part in a series of deadly puzzles to avoid being killed off.

Check out the trailer below:

By the looks of the trailer it’s basically Saw meets Cube – which was basically just Saw before Saw, anyway – dragged into 2018.

The puzzles do look imaginative, though; it’ll be interesting to see how they get out of the one that leaves them hanging upside down in a mock bar.

Who’s instigating all of these diabolical games remains to be seen, however.

(Not this guy.)

Fans of Netflix may recognise some of the cast; Escape Room stars Taylor Russell (Lost In Space) and Deborah Ann Woll (Daredevil) as well as Logan Miller (The Walking Dead), Tyler Labine, Jay Ellis, and Nik Dodani.

Oh, and it’s also directed by Adam Robitel, who was the man behind Insidious: The Last Key, so if you enjoyed that chances are you’ll like this too.

Escape Room is set for a January 4th, 2019 release date in the US and is expected to drop soon after right here in the UK.
