I was once playing football at school and when I went for a header I landed awkwardly on my foot, rolled my ankle and was 100% sure I’d broken it. So sure, in fact, that my mum had to pick me up and drive me to A&E with me whimpering in the passenger seat.
Turns out it wasn’t broken and the nurses were weirdly annoyed at me. I was like 13. Give me a break.
I’d say that’s a fair reason to go into A&E and it hasn’t happened since, but in the few times I have been there, I’ve seen a fair share of people in there for what is essentially “the sniffles”.
It gets worse though, according to medical professionals and patients alike…
