Like it or not, DC are forever playing catch-up to Disney and Marvel’s MCU. Granted, they were first to release a female-fronted superhero film in the form of Wonder Woman and it’s taken Marvel far too long to follow suit, but you sort of get the impression that Marvel will overtake them in that regard soon.

So with everyone talking about the as-yet-untitled Avengers 4 film and Captain Marvel, you have to wonder how DC are going to cope, since their next two films are about characters that generally, not many people who aren’t already super-fans care about.

Aquaman and Shazam are next for Warner Bros. and DC, and while it looks like the ridiculously bleak tone has been dropped for the latter, people have been wondering where director James Wan plans on going with Aquaman.

With that, Aquaman trailers were released and there was a worrying amount of panning shots across Atlantis, complete with a dangerous amount of big water-dwelling beasts, making it look like DC were still obsessed with showing everyone just how reliant they were on overdoing it with the CGI.

The latest trailer, however, is different – and things are looking a lot better for the film.

Have a watch…

There’s a lot going on, including Green Goblin teaching Aquaman how to swim. There also appears to be a whole Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales vibe, with everyone trying to find some sort of trident.

The description for the film reads:

Aquaman finds himself caught between a surface world that ravages the sea and the underwater Atlanteans who are ready to revolt.

It does look exciting, I’ll give it that. Similarly, the score is pretty great and that’s something Marvel has struggled with for a while.

The fight is on.
