The Mandalorian’s Giancarlo Esposito says that filming for season three of the popular Disney+ show will begin soon.
The Star Wars spin-off follows the adventures of bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and is set after the events of Return of the Jedi.
Speaking at GalaxyCon Raleigh, Esposito, who plays the villain Moff Gideon in the hit series, said: “They just finished… shooting Boba Fett, and soon they will start on season three of The Mandalorian.”
Esposito’s character was arrested in the season 2 finale – Chapter 16: The Rescue – but when asked if we would be seeing more of the imperial villain in the new season, fans got the answer they were looking for.
While clutching a figurine of Grogu (Baby Yoda), he added: “Yes, you’re gonna see me kill this baby.
“How about that? It’s totally wrong, but you know what, I gotta hold out somewhere that I’m gonna win.”
Filming on The Mandalorian season three is expected to begin at the end of this year or early next year.
The show’s star Pascal is currently working on HBO’s TV adaptation of the popular action-adventure game, The Last of Us.
The Narcos actor has been cast as the film’s protagonist Joey, joining Bella Ramsey (Game of Thrones) who will portray Ellie and Gabriel Luna (Terminator: Dark Fate) who will play Tommy.
When asked if his co-star’s commitments to the new HBO series would delay season three of The Mandalorian from going into production, Esposito said: “I don’t know what Pedro’s doing but, no, we never have to wait on Pedro.”
It has been reported that a body double will step in and film some of Pascal’s scenes, and the actor will then provide voiceovers at a later date.
The Breaking Bad star added: “I’m sure that he has worked out some way to do his other show and come back to do us.”
Elsewhere in the Star Wars universe, Ewan McGregor will be returning to his famed role in a new limited series called Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi.
The Trainspotting actor last appeared in 2005’s Revenge of the Sith, with the upcoming series taking place 10 years after the events of that film.
McGregor also played the wise Jedi in Star Wars: Episode 1 – The Phantom Menace (1999) and Sar Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones (2002).
News of The Mandalorian season three comes as filming wraps on Temuera Morrison’s s spinoff series The Book fo Boba Fett, which is slated to arrive on Disney+ in December.
Morrison portrays the character in The Mandalorian and also played his father, Jango Fett, in Attack of the Clones.
Speaking to Rotten Tomatoes about the spinoff series, he said: “Well, we can’t say too much, but we’re going to see his past and where he’s been since The Empire Strikes Back.
“Somebody pointed out he’s been kind of stuck in this one place, and now’s the time to actually go back in time and check out his journey and find out more about him.”
He added: “I just hope I meet the expectations because you can somehow kind of feel those things.
“You asked me that question earlier about Occupation – could you feel or sense anything, but definitely on The Book of Boba, you can get more of a sense and a feeling for if it’s working or not.
“So I think with being involved with that last series of The Mandalorian and having a reentry, it has created a little bit more expectation. But yeah, I feel good. We’ve done some good work.”
