The world is full of cinematic universes at the moment and generally, they’re all pretty hard to keep up with. At this point I wouldn’t be surprised if The Theory Of Everything was in the same universe as Malcolm in the Middle.
That said, it now seems that Riverdale is now part of a shared universe as the reboot of Sabrina the Teenage Witch is set to grace our screens via Netflix.
However, while you may remember the show as a sitcom for the 90s, starring a charming talking cat, this iteration is set to be about as far removed from that as you could possibly imagine.
It stars Kiernan Shipka -who you may remember as Sally Draper in Mad Men – as the titular Sabrina, and will be available to stream from 26th October.
Just to convey how different Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is to Sabrina the Teenage Witch, here’s the IMDb description for both. Take a guess which is which… or should I say witch is witch??? No I shouldn’t.
“When a 16-year-old high school student finds out she’s a witch, her two aunts offer guidance on how to control her newly-discovered magical powers.“
“A dark coming-of-age tale that follows Sabrina, as she wrestles to reconcile her dual nature as a half-witch, half-mortal while fighting evil forces.”
Yeah pretty obvious that the latter one is the Netflix version, as they seem to derive almost sexual pleasure in making previously family friendly stories into debaucherous and violent tales.
Have a look at the trailer…
F*cking hell, right?
It’s worked though. I want to watch it now.
It’s unclear as to whether Salem can still talk in this series but for the sake of Netflix, I hope he does. The fan base would kick up one hell of a fuss if he couldn’t… you could say it would be a witch hunt! But maybe you shouldn’t.
But yeah, this looks interesting. Lots of pentagrams. Lots of animal skulls. Lot’s of red candles.
What more could you ask for?
