Previously planned to be released earlier this year, Toy Story 4 was postponed until next summer, with Incredibles 2 taking its place in the roster.

Since then, we’ve only heard whispers about the upcoming and inevitable tearjerker and Tom Hanks himself even said it was hard to perform.

He said on the Chris Evans Breakfast Show:

It was the first time that we were going to be recording the end of the movie, and Toy Story [4] is going to have an impactful ending.

The way you record Toy Story, you’re in a room with the team that has created it. When I went in for my last day of recording, I wanted to have my back to them, because usually you’re facing him so he can look right up and you can talk about it.

But I didn’t want to see them and pretend they couldn’t see me. When I realised what they were going for, I realised, ‘Oh, this is a moment in history’.

Until now, we heard that the film would be about Woody trying to find Bo Peep, evoking a sort of romcom-style film, but going by the teaser trailer, something different happens…

So that’s interesting.

The description says beneath the video:

Woody has always been confident about his place in the world and that his priority is taking care of his kid, whether that’s Andy or Bonnie. But when Bonnie adds a reluctant new toy called “Forky” to her room, a road trip adventure alongside old and new friends will show Woody how big the world can be for a toy.

So in the Toy Story universe, anything can become sentient as long as it’s made to look like a toy and is treated as one? That’s certainly… weird.

Who knew children could play god in this capacity?
