It might not be out until April 2019, but excitement for ‘Game Of Thrones’ is well and truly reaching fever pitch.

Usually I reserve my interest for things so far in the future until closer to the time, but for this I’m making an exception.

I’m sure I’m not alone in saying that I expect plenty of gut-wrenching deaths in the final season of the fantasy epic, with just about every cast member confirming that the ending is both emotional and bittersweet.

But as the promo for season 8 slowly begins to roll out, it’s the start of the final series that we finally have news about.

Entertainment Weekly has got some first-look photos for series 8, which are released – in hardy copy and online – in their newest edition today.

They’ve also put the feature up online, which gives us some telling details about how the first episode of the new season will pan out.

The new episodes kick off at Winterfell, with an installment that EW says includes “plenty of callbacks to the show’s pilot.”

The Starks are awaiting a royal visitor but instead of King Robert it’s a procession for Daenerys and her army.

“What follows is a thrilling and tense intermingling of characters — some of whom have never previously met, many who have messy histories — as they all prepare to face the inevitable invasion of the Army of the Dead,” EW reports.

The episode will also revisit Jon’s relationship with his new love Dany, which causes tension with his Stark family.

“Sansa isn’t thrilled that Jon bent the knee to his fancy new Targaryen girlfriend, at least not at first,” according to EW.

That definitely seems to back up the first clip of the new season which shows the frosty reception between the two:

This comes after the title of the ‘Game Of Thrones’ prequel series has been announced.

George R.R. Martin recently took to Twitter to share that it would be titled The Long Night while confirming that Naomi Watts would be starring alongside Poldark’s Josh Whitehouse.

And if that wasn’t exciting enough, you can also apply to appear in the new series after several casting calls were leaked looking for actors.

You can find out more about the roles here.

The good new just don’t stop coming for GoT fans.
