Horror-comedies are arguably the most hit and miss genre in film.

Get Out (kind of), Shaun Of The Dead and Zombieland are a few of the success stories, but for every one of them there’s 10 Lesbian Vampire Killers.

(On a side-note: how did James Corden go from that steaming pile of horse sh*t to having his own slot on late-night American television?)

Talk about a career resurrection.

Still, horror-comedies are decidedly tricky to pull off, but before director Taika Waititi was bossing Thor and Hulk around in Thor: Ragnarok, he was busy filming various creatures of the night in one of the greatest vampire movies of all time: What We Do in the Shadows.

Alongside fellow countryman Jemaine Clement, Jonny Brugh and Rhys Darby, New Zealander Waititi played one of three classy vampires in the mockumentary-style film, who while attempting to survive in the present day, actually find themselves bickering about a load of trivial stuff like doing the dishes.

The 2014 film more or less gained cult status upon its release, and now we finally have a TV spin-off, as FX has released the first clips from its upcoming series in honour of Halloween on Wednesday night.

Check them out below:

The new spin-off will centre on a separate trio of vamps than the original, with the teasers introducing us to a group living in New York.

A Rotten Tomatoes report on the series reads:

“Much like the movie, the series follows three vampires who live together: Laszlo (Matt Berry), Nadja (Natasia Demetriou), and Nandor (Kayvan Novak)—the former two are husband and wife.”

“The main action is put into motion when our central three vampires receive notice that an ancient leader vampire named the Baron is coming to pay them a visit from abroad, purportedly to see how conquering America is going.”

The trailers definitely look like they’re picking up where they let off.

These denizens of the dark are clearly still struggling to cope with 21st century life and seem hilariously unequipped for existing in the Big Apple.

But the good What We Do In The Shadows news doesn’t stop there; a sequel called We’re Wolves is apparently in the works based on the gang of werewolves from the original movie.

It’s like Christmas come early.

What We Do in the Shadows is set to debut in spring 2019 on FX.

I, for one, can’t wait.
