If you’re a fan of Mamma Mia, then you’ll be delighted to know that a third instalment of the movie is currently in talks! It’s certainly one of our favourite films and we can’t wait for the team behind it to make it happen.

It seems that Amanda Seyfried is just as hopeful, as she recently admitted she’s “waiting” for the call.

Both of the Mamma Mia movies have become modern classics, with a renewed appreciation for ABBA’s music recognised around the world. The initial release of Mamma Mia! in 2008, followed by its sequel, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again in 2018, proved to be a huge success.

If you need a refresher, the romantic comedy follows the story of Sophie, played by Amanda Seyfried, and Sky, played by Dominic Cooper, and their love story. At the same time, Sophie’s journey of self-discovery leads her to question her mother Donna (Meryl Streep) about her past.

In the process, she discovers that any one of three men – Bill (Stellan Skarsgård), Sam (Pierce Brosnan), and Harry (Colin Firth) – could be her real father. This journey takes Sophie on an emotional rollercoaster as she wrestles with the questions of identity and family.

Along the way, they experience an exciting adventure filled with laughter, love, and ABBA’s iconic tracks.

Then, 5 years after the events of the first movie, Here We Go Again! chronicles Sophie’s life as she finds out that she is expecting a baby. This leads her on a journey to uncover her mother Donna’s own pregnancy story, allowing Sophie to further connect with the experience.

It was definitely a tear-jerker.

Since the second film came out, fans everywhere have been eager for a third instalment, and it seems another Mamma Mia might just be on the cards.

Ol Parker, the writer and director of Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again! revealed a thrilling update to ScreenRant late last year. Apparently, the producer of the franchise has a plan in motion.

He explained, “Judy Craymer, the genius producer behind the musical and the first two films, always [planned] for it to be a trilogy. That’s all I can say,” adding, “The first one made an enormous amount of money, and I think we made a fair amount too. I know that there is a hunger for a third, and I know that she has a plan. Wouldn’t it be lovely?”

In an interview with the Daily Mail back in 2020, Judy Craymer also voiced her thoughts on the possibility of a third Mamma Mia movie, she said: “I was meant to have been getting on with that, in my head, during these months [during lockdown]. But then I got hit with Covid fog.”

“I think one day there will be another film because there’s meant to be a trilogy, you see,” Craymer said, adding, “I know Universal would like me to do it.”

And it seems Amanda Seyfried is up for it, revealing she’s “waiting” for the call.

She told Entertainment Tonight at the Critics’ Choice Awards, “[I] have absolutely no power,” adding, “We are waiting for the call! There are enough ABBA songs. Judy Craymer, [who is the musical creator] is 100 percent on board, I don’t know what the Universal people are doing.”

We’re hoping for an update soon!
