Netflix’s Stranger Things has smashed the record of most watched TV show of 2022, after the groundbreaking fourth season dropped.

It’s safe to say, the fourth season left everyone shook and the internet has become obsessed with each and every one of the cast members individually.

Before the latest season came out, the show’s producer, Shawn Levy announced it was set to impress. He shared that the team was even more “ambitious” with the script this time around.

“The Duffers and I want to share season 4 with the world as badly as the world wants it,” Levy told The Hollywood Reporter last year.

“Season 4 was built to be by far the most ambitious, cinematic, sprawling, and epic season that we’ve ever done. By not just a little — by a lot. So the complexity of Season 4, even before we had the obstacles, hurdles, and challenges of a pandemic, is taking a lot of time because it is super worth the wait.”

And boy did it deliver. The show was so popular with fans, it has become Netflix’s number one streamed series.

As we previously reported, the hit sci-fi show got overtaken by Wednesday last year, when it smashed records as the most-watched English series in a week ever.

Netflix announced that in the week ending Sunday November 4, the new show had been watched for over 341.2 million hours. Considering the 8-part series was only released a week prior on November 23, that’s pretty impressive going! It also means that Wednesday smashed the record for most hours watched of any English-language series in a week.

This means that the new series had outdone the previous record set by series 4 of Stranger Things, which came out in May last year. Viewers absorbed 335 million hours of that in just one week after the first round of episodes was released, per Forbes.

Despite the news, Stranger Things still held the crown when it comes to the most-watched English-language show within its first twenty-eight days. The most recent series managed to rack up a total of 1.35 billion minutes viewed, so it’s unlikely Wednesday is going to beat that.

Stranger Things came in at the top spot, spending a whopping nineteen weeks in Netflix’s Top 10s. The series went on to be streamed an impressive fifty-two billion minutes by fans in 2022, and also took the crown for the most-watched English TV series in the first 4 weeks of it hitting screens.

The news of Stranger Thing‘s success comes after the end of a good year for Netflix’s streaming figures. Half of the company’s top ten most-watched English-language shows in the first twenty-eight days have come out since last last January.

Overall for 2022, Netflix’s most-watched series were, Stranger Things (52 billion minutes watched), Ozark (31.3 billion minutes watched), Wednesday (18.6 billion minutes watched), Cobra Kai (16.7 billion minutes watched), Bridgerton (14 billion minutes watched), Virgin River (13.6 billion minutes watched), Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story (13.4 billion minutes watched), Love Is Blind (13.1 billion minutes watched), Inventing Anna (12.9 billion minutes watched), The Crown (12.7 billion minutes watched).

However, these huge streaming figures didn’t seem to be reflected in the site’s subscribed numbers, which fell for the first time in ten years.
