Fans Left Heartbroken After Seeing Angela Bassett’s Face After She Lost Out On The Oscar

People are freaking out over Jamie Lee Curtis winning Best Supporting Actress over Angela Bassett.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences presented the 2022 film nominees for the 95th Academy Awards this Sunday at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles… and what a night it was.

At the ceremony, the 23 category winners were announced, with 4 awards going to German movie All Quiet on the Western Front, including Oscars for best original score, production design, cinematography, and international feature.

Best visual effects went to Avatar: The Way of Water, while Best Sound went to Top Gun: Maverick.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever won for costume design, while Navalny won for outstanding documentary film.

Pinocchio, directed by Guillermo del Toro, received the prize for best-animated feature, and Sarah Polley’s Women Talking took home the prize for best-adapted screenplay.

But arguably the most emotional part of the night was when The Whale won Brendan Fraser the award for best actor in a leading role.

However, the best-performing film had to be Everything Everywhere All at Once. It had the most 2023 Oscar nominations (11) going into the program, winning seven.

Not only did it win best picture, but it also won three acting awards for Michelle Yeoh as best leading actress, Ke Huy Quan as best supporting actor, and Jamie Lee Curtis as best supporting actress.

The movie also took home awards for best original script, best director (Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert), and best film editing (Paul Rogers).

And while that’s an incredible feat, some weren’t happy that Jamie Lee Curtis took the award for best supporting actress, as many believed it should have been awarded to Angela Bassett.

Bassett was nominated twice during the evening, she received her first nomination for her major performance as Tina Turner in What’s Love Got to Do With It.

But she missed out both times, and videos posted online by Bassett’s supporters show that the actor appeared to be visibly upset after the defeat.

The fact that the seasoned actor lost also infuriated a lot of Twitter users. Although Curtis is a skilled actress, some claimed that Bassett’s portrayal of a mourning Wakandan queen was superior. Also, they believed Stephanie Hsu, who was also nominated for her character Joy in Everything Everywhere, deserved the recognition more than Curtis.

One viewer wrote: “Angela Bassett’s reaction to Jamie Lee Curtis’ name being called…you can tell how much that Oscar would have meant to her. she is, was, and always will be incredible. I better see her on that stage SOON.”

While another commented: “THEY GAVE JAMIE LEE CURTIS AN OSCAR FOR A MOVIE SHE WAS BARELY IN BECAUSE THAT STUPID INDUSTRY BEEN IGNORING HER HER WHOLE CAREER…ONLY TO ALSO IGNORE ANGELA BASSETT WHO IS BEYOND DESERVING OF THAT AWARD.”

“Jamie Lee Curtis over Stephanie Hsu and Angela Bassett is so deeply unserious because of all the roles she’s had in her life there is no way she should have won in eeaao. it should have been FREAKY FRIDAY,” a third said.
