Nearly twenty years after the first movie came out, Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story is set to get a sequel.

What’s more, is that fans are sure to be ecstatic to find out that the movie’s star Vince Vaughn is on course to return.

Now, the original Dodgeball movie is beloved by fans all across the globe. The road to the sequel hasn’t been as clear as some might have hoped.

The first rumours of a follow-up story came way back in 2013, when plans for a second movie were first announced. However, the plans never came to fruition – until now.

Deadline first reported the news, confirming that Vaughn was set to star and likely produce a second Dodgeball movie, which is in production at 20th Century Fox. Jordan VanDina is also confirmed to be on board as script writer.

The outlet reports that thus far it is still unclear who else will be joining the cast, and so whether other stars of the first movie such as Ben Stiller, Christine Taylor and Justin Long will reprise their roles.

Aside from Vaughn’s starring role and VanDina taking the helm on writing, all the information that fans have on the sequel is that it will follow what happened next in the tale of his prize-winning gym owner.

The first movie came out in 2004 and was directed by Rawson Marshall Thurber, and although it is still unclear if he will return to direct the sequel, he addressed the possibility of more movies in the franchise in a 2021 interview with Deadline.

“You know what — never say never. I never thought about Dodgeball as a series, but that actually might be fun,” he said.

“I’m really proud of Dodgeball — it’s my first film and something people still really like it seems. I would say never say never, and it would have to be the right take on it. But yeah, maybe.”

Regardless of who the flick gets on board to direct, it is sure to be a hit with fans, as the reactions to the news of the sequel has been met with glee from all corners of the internet.

One person wrote: “First time I saw Dodgeball, I laughed so hard I had a panic attack. Still one of the greatest comedies ever made. I just hope we still get that same level of comedy from the new one, the world has changed so much since the original.”

Another said: “I just rewatched dodgeball the other day and was thinking they needed a sequel. Life is finally complete.”

While a third commented simply: “I will be there no matter what.”

We can’t wait to see what the sequel has in store!
