First Trailer For Meg 2 Drops And Fans Think It Could Blow The First Movie Out The Water

The first trailer for Meg 2: Trench has finally been released, and it has already gotten fans excited for the new flick.

The first movie in the franchise, titled simply The Meg, came out back in 2018, and proved to be something of a sleeper hit. Eventually it went on to gross over $500 million at the box office worldwide, and so they just had to make a sequel!

The first movie’s plot loosely follows the storyline of Steve Alten’s novel Meg: A Novel Of Deep Terror.

It follows a group of scientists after they come into contact with a twenty-three meter long prehistoric megalodon shark while on a rescue mission on the ocean floor.

Starring Jason Statham, Li Bingbing, Rainn Wilson and Ruby Rose to name just a few, it’s no surprise it was such a big hit.

However, now they’re back for round 2 with the franchise’s second movie, and fans are already convinced after seeing the trailer that it is set to blow the first flick out the water.

All the info we have about the sequel so far is that Statham is set to reprise his role as Jonas Taylor, and it will follow the tale of the second book in Alten’s series, which is also titled The Trench.

Fans have flocked to the trailer to get their first glimpse at the new movie, and have left their thoughts in the comments.

One person wrote: “These are the type of movies I’ve missed for so long. I thought Meg was going to be a one off but I’m ultra happy to see it get an over the top “dumb” sequel. I’m all in!!”

Another said: “Honestly love that it looks like they’re not even taking themselves seriously at this point. Just looks like a really fun shark movie.”

While a third wrote: “I love how now they are approaching this as an action comedy this time. First was a happy accident but now this time we know what it’s going to be and it’s going to be the ride of the summer!”

Meg 2: The Trench is set to hit screens on August 4, and you can check out the trailer for yourself below.
