Following the news of Madonna’s hospitalisation, it has been revealed that her family ‘prepared for the worst’ as she was rushed into intensive care.
She has since been discharged from hospital and is “in the clear,” a source told CNN.
The news of the star’s ill health came just weeks before the star was set to embark on her eighty-four date ‘Celebration’ world tour, to honour the fortieth anniversary of her career.
The pop icon was admitted to intensive care on June 24. The star’s manager Guy Oseary shared the news in a post on Instagram, announcing that she had suffered a ‘serious bacterial infection’.
As per Page Six, the sixty-four-year-old was found ‘unresponsive’ at a New York City residence on Saturday, and was then admitted to the ICU. She was said to have been intubated, but then had the tube removed and was moved into a regular ward.
Thankfully, her manager reassured fans her condition has improved and she is expected to make a full recovery. She has since returned to her New York home.
She was set to embark on her ‘Celebration’ world tour in less than 3 weeks’ time, but the shows have now been postponed to allow for time for the star to get better.
The statement from her management team read: “On Saturday June 24, Madonna developed a serious bacterial infection which lead to a several day stay in the ICU.
“Her health is improving, however she is still under medical care. A full recovery is expected.
“At this time we will need to pause all commitments, which includes the tour. We will share more details with you soon as we have them, including a new start date for the tour and for rescheduled shows.”
However, a family member revealed to Mail Online that, prior to her being discharged from hospital, they were ‘preparing for the worst’. The source revealed that the star believed she was ‘invincible’ and was pushing herself to the max to prepare for her world tour, but that her stay in the ICU has been somewhat of a wakeup call.
“For the past couple of days, no one really knew which direction this was going to turn, and her family was preparing for the worst,” the relative said.
“That is why it was kept a secret since Saturday. Everyone believed that we may lose her and that has been the reality of the situation.”
Madonna has 6 children altogether. Lourdes is her eldest, who she had with Carlos Leon.
Then comes twenty-two-year-old Rocco Ritchie, whose father is movie director Guy Ritchie.
In 2008, she adopted seventeen-year-old David Banda from an orphanage in Malawi, with her adoption of Chifundo “Mercy” James following a year later.
Her youngest children are ten-year-old twins Stella and Estere, who she adopted from the country in 2012.
