‘Friends’ Cast ‘Reeling’ from Matthew Perry’s ‘Devastating’ Death

Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc, and Lisa Kudrow are reportedly preparing to issue a collective statement following the tragic passing of their former co-star. Matthew Perry was found dead at the age of 54 in his Los Angeles home on Saturday, prompting the cast to consider expressing their condolences.

An insider told Page Six on Sunday, “The cast is reeling from the loss of their brother, because that’s what Matty was — their brother. It’s just devastating.” The camaraderie established during the ten seasons of “Friends,” which ran from 1994 to 2004, formed a strong bond among all six actors, leading to enduring friendships.

Throughout his life, Perry openly addressed his struggles with alcohol and drug addiction. He maintained a particularly close relationship with Aniston even after the conclusion of the iconic sitcom. “She was the one that reached out the most. You know, I’m really grateful to her for that,” Perry mentioned in an interview with Diane Sawyer in 2022.

In Perry’s memoir, “Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing,” he revealed that Aniston was the first among their castmates to confront him about his substance abuse.

The sources emphasized that the entire cast of “Friends” shares a profound closeness and will be deeply affected by Perry’s passing. “They will be devastated, because they were together through the best of times and worst of times,” the source explained. “And when Matty was sick, they protected him, they looked after him fiercely.”

In response to the heartbreaking news, Perry’s family addressed the public following his sudden death over the weekend. They expressed deep sorrow over the loss of their beloved son and brother. “Matthew brought so much joy to the world, both as an actor and a friend. You all meant so much to him and we appreciate the tremendous outpouring of love,” they stated, as reported by People.

Matthew Perry, known for his role in “17 Again,” was found dead in his jacuzzi, appearing to have drowned. Emergency services responded to his Pacific Palisades home after receiving a call about a cardiac arrest from his assistant. An official cause of death has yet to be revealed, but authorities have not found any signs of foul play, although prescription medications were discovered on the premises. The medications included anti-depressants, anti-anxiety drugs, and a COPD drug, as per TMZ.

Perry is survived by his parents and five half-siblings—Caitlin, Emily, Maria, Will, and Madeline. He never married nor had any children.
