Amy Schumer Responds To Concern Over Her ‘Puffier’ Face

Amy Schumer has responded to critics who made comments about her appearance during recent TV appearances, addressing concerns about her ‘puffier’ face.

Taking to Instagram on February 15, Schumer wrote, “Thank you so much for everyone’s input about my face! I’ve enjoyed feedback and deliberation about my appearance as all women do for almost 20 years. And you’re right it is puffier than normal right now.”

She attributed the change in her appearance to some “medical and hormonal” factors, clarifying that she’s dealing with endometriosis, a condition that affects the uterus lining. Schumer affirmed, “There are some medical and hormonal things going on in my world right now but I’m okay.”

Advocating for self-love and acceptance, Schumer emphasized that women don’t need to justify their physical appearance. She stated, “I also believe a woman doesn’t need any excuse for her physical appearance and owes no explanation. But I wanted to take the opportunity to advocate for self-love and acceptance of the skin you’re in.”

Acknowledging the fluctuating nature of confidence, Schumer expressed, “Like every other women/person some days I feel confident and good as hell and others I want to put a bag over my head.” However, she emphasized feeling proud of her accomplishments, particularly her involvement in the TV show she created, wrote, starred in, and directed.

Schumer urged focusing on her achievements rather than scrutinizing her appearance, stating, “Maybe just maybe we can focus on that for a little.”

Endometriosis affects approximately one in ten individuals with a uterus, causing chronic pelvic pain and impacting fertility. Despite its prevalence, the condition is often under-diagnosed, with symptoms mistaken for regular menstrual cramps. In the US, patients may live with the condition for over ten years before diagnosis, a challenge exacerbated among people of color, with black patients being 50% less likely to be diagnosed compared to white patients.
