Jimmy Kimmel Could Be About to Disappear From TV For Good

Jimmy Kimmel finds himself at a juncture of reflection and anticipation as he juggles hosting duties for the upcoming Oscars on March 10th while celebrating the 21st anniversary of his talk show, “Jimmy Kimmel Live.”

Despite his busy schedule, Kimmel is contemplating what the future holds once his current contract for hosting “Jimmy Kimmel Live” concludes. Reflecting on the demanding nature of his work, he shared with the Los Angeles Times, “It’s hard to yearn for it when you’re doing it.” Recalling a recent moment of fatigue while revising scripts for the Oscars, he admitted to daydreaming about the end of his contract. However, he acknowledges the allure of the downtime that follows, admitting, “Yeah, I miss the fun stuff.”

This isn’t the first time Kimmel has considered retirement. Expressing a sense of finality, he remarked, “I think this is my final contract.” Despite past predictions proving premature, he feels content with the remaining two years of his current contract.

Contemplating his post-late-night future, Kimmel humorously envisions a retired version of himself indulging in various hobbies. “A retired Kimmel ‘speaks Italian, he plays the harmonica beautifully. He is an expert fly-fisherman,’” he quipped. However, he acknowledges the likelihood of these fantasies remaining just that—fantasies.

Admitting uncertainty about his future endeavors, Kimmel muses on potential hobbies, from cooking to sculpture. He recognizes the inevitability of unfulfilled aspirations, remarking, “I know that when I die, if I’m fortunate enough to die on my own terms in my own bed, I’m going to think, ‘Oh, I was never able to get to this, and I was never able to get to that.’” Despite the uncertainty, Kimmel approaches the future with a sense of curiosity and openness to new experiences.
