Dave Myers, one of the dynamic duo known as The Hairy Bikers, has passed away at the age of 66, following a two-year battle with cancer.

Hailing from Barrow-in-Furness, Myers rose to prominence alongside his partner in culinary exploration, Si King, two decades ago. The pair, recognizable for their iconic beards, embarked on thrilling journeys across the UK and abroad on their beloved motorbikes, immersing themselves in diverse cuisines and cultures.

Their most recent venture, The Hairy Bikers Go West, kicked off this month, tracing the scenic route along the UK’s western coastline. In the premiere episode, Myers shared his heartfelt sentiment, expressing gratitude for being back on his bike despite the challenges he faced. “There was a time I couldn’t balance, I couldn’t walk, I didn’t think I’d be getting on a bike,” he revealed.

Reflecting on the series, King emphasized the profound significance of the journey, particularly for Myers, a native of the west coast. “This one was particularly special in general because of Dave’s health and his sheer and utter determination and love for what he does,” King remarked. “Especially to continue to do it while he was having treatment took remarkable courage and energy.”

Myers and King forged their partnership in the 1990s, captivating audiences with their vibrant personalities and culinary expertise. Their breakout hit, The Hairy Bikers’ Cookbook, debuted on BBC TV in 2004, catapulting them into stardom. Subsequent culinary escapades, including the Hairy Bikers’ Food Tour of Britain, further solidified their status as household names, accompanied by a series of bestselling books.

Beyond the kitchen, Myers showcased his versatility by gracing the dance floor of Strictly Come Dancing in 2013, paired with professional dancer Karen Hauer.

Dave Myers leaves behind a legacy of adventure, camaraderie, and culinary passion that will continue to inspire and delight audiences around the world.

RIP.
