The photos were published by the US gossip website TMZ but not in the UK, after Kensington Palace appealed for her privacy during her recuperation.
In response to speculation surrounding the Princess’ condition, American celebrity magazine People called for transparency. A spokesman told the outlet, ‘His focus is on his work and not on social media.’
This rebuttal follows recent condemnation of the ‘madness of social media’ by royal aides, as conspiracy theories about the Princess of Wales’s health continue to circulate online.
