John Oliver Slammed For Joke About Kate Middleton ‘Dying Last Year’

John Oliver has chimed in on the swirling speculation regarding the Princess of Wales, injecting humor into the discourse by jesting that Kate ‘could have died 18 months ago’.

The host of Last Week Tonight shared his quip during an appearance on Bravo’s Watch What Happens Live on Tuesday night, despite recent public sightings of the Princess. “There is a non-zero chance that she died 18 months ago,” quipped the British comedian. He continued, referencing the film “Weekend at Bernie’s,” saying, “They might be ‘Weekend at Bernie’s-ing’ this situation.”

Oliver, bantering alongside host Andy Cohen, also touched upon the Royal Family’s mantra of ‘Never Complain, Never Explain.’ “I’m not saying it happened, but I’m saying it’s non-zero until proven otherwise. Until we see her sitting there with a copy of the day’s paper,” he added.

The comedian revealed that he hadn’t paid much heed to the speculations surrounding Kate until the recent “photoshop thing.” “That feels, like, you’re almost handling it badly in an impressive way at this point,” remarked the HBO star.

Despite expectations that the mother-of-three would remain out of the public eye until after Easter due to abdominal surgery and a hospital stay in January, she surprised many by appearing alongside Prince William as they left Windsor Castle on Monday.

Her unexpected appearance comes amid a frenzy of online conspiracy theories concerning her health. Kate had also been spotted on March 4 in a 4×4 Audi, driven by her mother Carole Middleton, near Windsor Castle.

The Princess of Wales had faced scrutiny following alterations made to a Mother’s Day photograph she shared, prompting her to apologize on social media, acknowledging her experimentation with editing and expressing regret for any confusion caused. PR experts dubbed the incident a ‘massive own goal’ and urged royal officials to release the unedited picture to rebuild public trust.

While Kensington Palace initially faced calls to address the photograph’s authenticity, Kate and her team were reportedly deeply affected by the fallout. Despite efforts to quell rumors about her health, the speculation has persisted, prompting discussions even within mainstream media outlets like the BBC.

Kensington Palace has maintained its initial statement from January regarding Kate’s surgery, stating she is on the path to recovery but unlikely to resume official duties until after Easter.
