Sophie Turner asks Judge to ‘Reactivate’ Divorce Proceedings with Joe Jonas

Sophie Turner’s legal representatives have formally requested a judge to reinstate her and Joe Jonas’ divorce proceedings. The singer initiated the divorce process in September 2023, marking the end of their four-year marriage with the Game of Thrones actor.

Initially, the couple issued a joint statement on their social media platforms, expressing their mutual decision to end their marriage on amicable terms. However, complications arose when Turner filed a legal petition accusing Jonas of wrongfully detaining their children in New York.

Their statement announcing the split emphasized their desire for privacy, stating, “After four wonderful years of marriage we have mutually decided to amicably end our marriage. There are many speculative narratives as to why but, truly this is a united decision and we sincerely hope that everyone can respect our wishes for privacy for us and our children.”

Turner’s lawsuit against Jonas alleged that they had agreed to raise their two daughters in England permanently, but Jonas was reportedly withholding their children’s passports and preventing them from traveling to the UK.

Responding to Turner’s claims, a spokesperson for Jonas explained that they had met in New York and agreed to work towards a cooperative co-parenting arrangement. However, Turner subsequently expressed her intention to permanently relocate the children to the UK, leading to a legal dispute over custody and travel arrangements.

Fortunately, the couple reached a temporary custody agreement, ensuring the children’s well-being until early 2024. In a joint statement, they announced, “After a productive and successful mediation, we have agreed that the children will spend time equally in loving homes in both the U.S. and the UK. We look forward to being great co-parents.”

Subsequently, Jonas filed to dismiss the divorce case, indicating a shared desire for an amicable resolution to all issues. Turner also withdrew her claims of wrongful retention.

However, Turner’s recent legal action suggests a renewed push for the court’s intervention in resolving their marital issues. Her legal team filed paperwork in Miami-Dade County, Florida, seeking to reactivate the divorce proceedings. The court documents indicate that the abatement period has ended, signaling a resumption of the case.
