Rylan Opens Up about Landing ‘Dream Job’ as He Makes Surprising Career Change

Rylan Clark has recently fulfilled a lifelong dream of becoming cabin crew for a day, showcasing his surprising career move during an appearance on Thursday’s Good Morning Britain. While discussing his new BBC Italy travel series with Rob Rinder, the conversation swiftly shifted to Rylan’s unique experience as a flight attendant.

The 35-year-old TV presenter, who has always harbored a fascination with life at 30,000 feet, had the opportunity to put his dream into action courtesy of Virgin Atlantic. Rylan recounted his adventure on a flight from London to Miami, where he learned the ropes of cabin crew duties, from extending a warm welcome to delivering top-notch service, serving refreshments and meals, and entertaining young passengers.

When GMB presenter Charlotte Hawkins inquired about his unexpected career choice, Rylan explained, “I’ve always wanted to be cabin crew. Then Virgin Atlantic, the whole team, they heard me mention this in an interview and they said, ‘why don’t you come and try it!’”

Reflecting on the experience, Rylan expressed his delight, sharing, “I tell you now, I had the best experience. I did an economy flight to Miami and the passengers didn’t know I was going to be there. I didn’t think anyone would know who I was to be honest and I had the best time.”

However, Rylan admitted that he underestimated the responsibilities of cabin crew. He confessed, “Don’t get me wrong, I know cabin crew work extremely hard, they have fast turnarounds and things like that… But we were in the economy cabin and I said, ‘So what do we do, offer them a drink and give them their dinner and that’s it?’ They said ‘no, there’s a lot more to it than that!’”

Detailing some of the additional tasks, Rylan revealed, “There’s kids activity packs that you have to do with the kids, we got the kids dressed up in our jackets, afternoon tea. I was like, I could live on this plane!”

Sharing a humorous anecdote from the experience, Rylan recounted his amusement at exiting Miami’s airport through the crew security lane, dressed in the classic cabin crew uniform. He recounted how the pilot humorously introduced him as his partner, adding to the fun of the day.

Additionally, Rylan touched on Louis Walsh’s post-Celebrity Big Brother experience, describing him as a “shell of a man.” He also offered insights into his bond with Rob Rinder ahead of their Italy exploration series, emphasizing its educational and authentic nature.
