Taylor Swift Fans Are Convinced She Takes Aim At Ex Matty Healy In New Album

Taylor Swift’s fans, often referred to as Swifties, never seem to miss any subtle references in her music. As Swift is currently in a relationship with NFL star Travis Kelce, it’s easy to forget her brief romance with The 1975’s frontman Matt Healy. The two met in 2014 and their romance made headlines when it went public in May 2023, though it ended just a month later.

Swift’s new album The Tortured Poets Department seems to take aim at her past relationship with Healy. In the track Guilty as Sin?, Swift discusses romantic feelings for someone from her past while being involved with another person. Fans believe this is about Joe Alwyn, whom she dated for six years before her brief relationship with Healy. Some listeners have noted that the song’s style resembles The 1975’s music, further hinting at Healy’s influence.

The song The Black Dog features lyrics that reference pop-punk group The Starting Line, a band favored by Healy. Swift describes the story of two lovers reuniting after time apart. Fans were surprised to learn Swift was familiar with The Starting Line, suggesting her past connection to Healy.

In Fresh Out the Slammer, Swift explores the excitement of starting a new romance after escaping a suffocating relationship. The lyrics touch on running back home and starting something new, with hints about her current relationship with Kelce. Both Healy and Alwyn are British, aligning with her mention of her new boyfriend not being American.

Finally, The Tortured Poets Department seems to allude to Healy, referencing the time he brought a typewriter to Swift’s apartment. Swift sings about someone leaving a typewriter at her place, mocking its outdatedness.
