The Witcher Series Cancelled By Netflix

Netflix’s popular fantasy series The Witcher has been renewed for its fifth and final season following the departure of lead actor Henry Cavill. The announcement came on Thursday, 18 April, and also stated that season four is already in production, with season five set to be filmed consecutively.

Cavill, who played the iconic role of Geralt of Rivia for the first three seasons, announced his departure from the show in October 2022, ahead of the release of season three, which premiered in two parts last summer. In his statement, he expressed gratitude for his time on the show and passed the torch to his successor, Liam Hemsworth.

Hemsworth, known for his role in The Hunger Games, is enthusiastic about stepping into the role of Geralt, acknowledging the big shoes he has to fill. He also expressed admiration for Cavill’s portrayal of the character and his excitement to take on the role.

Seasons four and five of The Witcher will cover the last three novels in Andrzej Sapkowski’s book series: Baptism of Fire, The Tower of the Swallow, and Lady of the Lake. Although Netflix has not yet announced release dates for the upcoming seasons, the series’ dedicated fan base eagerly awaits the final chapters of the story.

In addition to his departure from The Witcher, Cavill recently shared personal news about expecting his first child with his girlfriend, TV executive Natalie Viscuso. The couple went public with their relationship in 2021 and made their red carpet debut at the premiere of Cavill’s Netflix film Enola Holmes 2 in New York.
