Deadpool and Wolverine Trailer Sets New Record That’s Higher Than Entire MCU Put Together

In case it wasn’t already abundantly clear, the new trailer for Deadpool and Wolverine firmly establishes one thing: joining the MCU won’t alter Deadpool’s penchant for swearing or violence. The trailer is chock-full of expletives, violence, and even includes an extended cocaine joke to cap it off.

This marks a bold new direction for the MCU, one in which Ryan Reynolds can openly poke fun at Kevin Feige and seemingly say whatever he pleases in the film. The trailer makes this point so strongly that it has actually set a record.

Watch the trailer to see for yourself what we mean (and notice all the censored spots where swearing should be).

The sheer amount of swearing in the trailer sets a record, making it the most profanity-laden Marvel trailer to date, encompassing both the Fox X-Men universe, Netflix shows, and, as expected, any MCU films.

The trailer is brimming with profanity, featuring six “f-bombs,” one “d-word,” one “s-word,” and more, surpassing the previous record held by—no surprises here—the first Deadpool 2 trailer and the Deadpool red band trailer.

It’s hardly surprising that when you bring together the only two characters to have starred in R-rated Marvel films—Logan and Deadpool—the result is a profanity-packed spectacle. But the trailer doesn’t just set a record for swearing; it’s likely the film itself will shatter another record.

The new trailer for Deadpool and Wolverine boasts more f-bombs than the entire combined MCU—a whopping 33 films spanning over 72 hours—yet Reynolds accomplishes this feat in just two and a half minutes.

While the abundance of profanity may raise eyebrows, it’s not entirely unexpected. While PG-13 films are permitted one f-bomb, it’s a rarity in the MCU. Spider-Man: Homecoming features an abruptly cut-off “what the f-,” and Iron Man 2 includes a deleted scene where a senator tells Tony Stark to “f-off.” Guardians of the Galaxy broke ground with its first full f-bomb uttered by Star-Lord, demanding to “open the f-ing door” at Nebula.

Whether you count that as one or three, the six in the trailer is a significant leap, indicating that the MCU may be embracing swearing more openly, if this trailer is any indication.
