Emma Stone Wants To Be Called By Her Real Name From Now On

During an interview with the Hollywood Reporter published Wednesday, Emma Stone candidly expressed her preference to be addressed by her birth name, Emily.

“I would like to be Emily,” the “La La Land” star revealed while seated alongside her “Curse” co-star Nathan Fielder.

Stone, 35, elaborated that she initially adopted the name “Emma Stone” due to another actress already claiming the name Emily Stone within SAG-AFTRA. “Then I freaked out a couple of years ago. For some reason, I was like, ‘I can’t do it anymore. Just call me Emily,’” she explained.

While acknowledging that those close to her often refer to her by her given name, Stone noted that Nathan opts for the simpler moniker “Em.”

However, Stone indicated that she wouldn’t correct fans who approached her using her stage name, Emma.

Following her revelation, fans took to social media to applaud Stone for embracing her real name. One supporter wrote, “Good for Emily Stone to ask fans to call her by her real name! Sad that her profession required a unique name.”

Another fan expressed their intention to adhere to Stone’s preference: “I’m calling you Emily from now on xxxx.”

Reflecting on her childhood fascination with Spice Girls’ Emma Lee Bunton, known as Baby Spice, Stone revealed, “Growing up, I was super blonde, and my real name is Emily, but I wanted to be called Emma because of Baby Spice and guess what? Now I am.”

During an appearance on “The Tonight Show” with Jimmy Fallon in 2018, Stone reminisced about her early school days, admitting, “It wasn’t necessarily because of her but yes, in second grade, did I go up to the teacher on the first day and ask her to call me Emma? Yes, I did.”
