Entrepreneur and philanthropist Mona Patel recently fulfilled every girl’s dream by making her debut appearance at the prestigious Met Gala, styled by none other than the renowned Law Roach, who has also styled stars like Zendaya, this year’s co-host for the event.
Originally from Vadodara, Gujarat, Patel relocated to the United States for her higher education at Rutgers University and eventually settled there in 2003 to establish herself as an entrepreneur. Over the years, she has built a million-dollar empire comprising various businesses. At the core of her endeavours lies Couture For Cause, a non-profit organisation that merges her passion for fashion with her philanthropic endeavours to support meaningful causes. Through auctions of one-of-a-kind couture pieces, many from her personal collection, Patel has raised substantial funds and donations, earning her a spot at fashion’s Superbowl, the Met Gala 2024.

Patel’s custom Iris Van Herpen gown for the event featured a unique accent devised by the entrepreneur herself. Collaborating with kinetic motion artist Casey Curran, Patel incorporated kinetic flower petals encircling her arms, adding a mesmerising touch to her red carpet ensemble. This intricate addition was meticulously crafted over a month and unveiled on the day of the gala.

Reflecting on her debut look, Patel shared, “I wanted my debut look to celebrate my heritage and my love for couture, and when I heard of the theme, Iris Van Herpen seemed like the obvious choice.” Known for her avant-garde designs inspired by nature, the Dutch haute couture designer created a stunning nude sculpted gown with butterfly-shaped corset and scalloped train, fittingly titled “Garden of Time.”
To bring her vision to life, Patel enlisted the expertise of Law Roach, a legendary image architect. Together, they embarked on a months-long journey, including a visit to Mumbai to collaborate with the Iris Van Herpen team and select red carpet-worthy jewels. Their meticulous planning culminated in a flawless Met Gala appearance, showcasing Patel’s exquisite taste and dedication to perfection.
