Baby Reindeer Finally Overtaken By Twisted Documentary Based On True Story

Netflix’s word-of-mouth sensation Baby Reindeer has finally been dethroned from its top spot on the streaming giant’s list of leading TV shows.

The show that pushed it down? Another gripping series based on a true story that has left viewers stunned.

Baby Reindeer climbed to the top of Netflix in early April, and for over a month, it was the talk of the town as the real-life story it is based on unfolded.

Created by comedian Richard Gadd, it features the Scottish comedian himself in the lead role of Donny Dunn, who juggles his aspirations of becoming a full-time comedian while working at a bar in a London pub.

The buzz around Baby Reindeer intensified when Fiona Harvey, identified by her social media posts as the ‘real Martha,’ appeared on Piers Morgan’s Talk TV show Piers Morgan Uncensored.

In response to the online sleuthing, Gadd said: “I don’t agree with the sleuth thing. I’ve put out a statement publicly saying I want the show to be received as a piece of art, and I want the show to people to enjoy as a piece of art.

“I’m called Donny Dunn. It exists in a sort of fictional realm, even though it’s based on truth, it exists in a fictional realm, let’s enjoy the world that I’ve created.”

The reign of Baby Reindeer, however, has come to an end, dropping to third place in Netflix’s list of the top 10 most-watched shows in the United Kingdom.

The new top spot is held by Netflix’s latest hit documentary, Ashley Madison: Sex, Lies & Scandal.

This series explores the 2015 cyber attack on the dating website Ashley Madison, which catered to married individuals seeking extramarital relationships. Its slogan was straightforward: ‘Life is short. Have an affair.’

The cyber attack exposed the data of three million users, who feared their activities on the site would be revealed. The leak had severe real-life repercussions, with numerous marriages falling apart and several individuals losing their jobs. Tragically, at least two people died by suicide as a result of the incident.

Ashley Madison: Sex, Lies & Scandal took the top position but was quickly bumped to second place by the third season of Bridgerton, which now leads Netflix’s top 10 most-watched shows in the UK.
