The film will explore Danny Ocean’s parents with a heist set at the Monaco Grand Prix
The Ocean’s universe is heading somewhere new and very fast.
Margot Robbie has confirmed that the upcoming prequel will centre around a high stakes heist at the Monaco Grand Prix, one of the most iconic events in Formula One.
But this time, the story is not about Danny Ocean.
Instead, the film goes back to where it all began.
Set in the 1960s, the prequel will follow Danny’s parents, revealing the masterminds who shaped the legendary con artist long before Las Vegas was even on the table.
Robbie teased that the film will show them at their peak, pulling off a major heist during the 1962 Monaco Grand Prix.
And the casting is just as big.
Robbie is set to star alongside Bradley Cooper, who is also in talks to direct the film, marking another major step in his directing career after A Star Is Born and Maestro.
The project has gone through a few creative changes behind the scenes, but now seems to be firmly back on track, with Cooper leading both in front of and behind the camera.

Robbie has been attached to the film from the start and is also producing through her company LuckyChap, continuing her run of high profile projects.
The prequel is part of a wider push to expand the Ocean’s franchise.
Alongside this new origin story, a separate sequel featuring the original crew is also in development, bringing back familiar faces from the early 2000s films.
So it is not just a return.
It is a full expansion.
The prequel is set to hit cinemas in June 2027, and if the Monaco setting is anything to go by, this might be one of the franchise’s most ambitious heists yet.
