The sequel is already in the works following the massive success of ‘Maverick’

Top Gun is not done just yet.

A third film in the franchise is officially in development, with Tom Cruise set to return as Pete “Maverick” Mitchell.

The announcement was confirmed during a major studio presentation, revealing that work on the next chapter is already underway.

And it is bringing back familiar names.

Producer Jerry Bruckheimer, who helped shape both the original film and Top Gun: Maverick, is returning for the sequel, with a script currently in progress.

Plot details are still under wraps for now.

But the story is expected to build on where Maverick left off, following both Cruise’s iconic pilot and the new generation introduced in the 2022 film.

That film was a huge moment for the franchise.

Top Gun: Maverick went on to earn nearly $1.5 billion worldwide, making it one of the biggest films of the year and proving there is still major demand for the story.

So a sequel was always likely.

Even Cruise has hinted at it before, revealing that discussions around a third film have been ongoing, alongside ideas for other projects.

Behind the scenes, the creative team has also suggested that the story is already taking shape, with an ambitious direction planned for the next installment.

Which raises the stakes even more.

Because after the success of Maverick, expectations are high.

But if there is one thing this franchise has proven, it is that it knows how to deliver.
