Rupert Grint is a legend of our screens, all thanks to his role as Ron Weasley in the Harry Potter movie series.
However, since the main franchise came to an end over ten years ago, one question has been on everyone’s lips – will the beloved cast ever reprise their roles to bring us more content?
And, for Grint, the answer seems to be yes!
Speaking on This Morning, the thirty-four-year-old opened up about how he feels about the franchise now.
He shared that he feels “protective” over the character, and that he would like to see what he’s getting up to these days.
“You would bring Ron back? You wouldn’t actually be opposed to see what he is up to now?” Philip enquired, per the Daily Mail.
Grint responded: “I think if the timing was right and everyone was coming back. It was a character that was important to me, we kind of became the same person.
“I’m protective of him as well. It was my whole childhood.”
He added that prior to the Harry Potter movies, his own acting credentials were, quite frankly, not much.
“I was a fish in a school play before that,” the star joked.
Since the end of the Harry Potter series, Grint has lived a colourful few years.
He continued his acting work, starring in a variety of films and TV shows. Most recently, he appeared in Guillermo Del Toro’s Cabinet Of Curiosities, a horror anthology series that appeared on Netflix.
He is also set to star in M. Night Shyamalan’s new thriller, Knock at the Cabin.
One of the most infamous parts of Grint’s post-Harry Potter life, though, has to be his purchasing of an ice cream van.
However, it’s no surprise that Grint looks back so fondly on his iconic role as Ron Weasley, because he is certainly not alone in feeling that way towards the franchise.
It’s no secret that Harry Potter gained a colossal fan base since the first book came out way back in 1997, and while the films have been a huge part of helping hook audiences across the globe, it was the book that first sparked imaginations.
But there are a lot of things that J.K. Rowling regrets about Harry Potter…
Firstly, we all knew Hermione was meant to end up with Harry… I mean, Ron, seriously?
Rowling addressed this in an interview with The Sunday Times, explaining: “I wrote the Hermione/Ron relationship as a form of wish fulfilment. That’s how it was conceived, really.
“For reasons that have very little to do with literature and far more to do with me clinging to the plot as I first imagined it, Hermione ended up with Ron.”
Then there’s the brutal death of Fred Weasley… we still haven’t recovered.
In 2015 Rowling Tweeted her long overdue apology to fans, writing: “Today I would just like to say: I’m really sorry about Fred. *Bows head in acceptance of your reasonable ire.*”
