Jeremy Wade spent nine seasons tracking down some of the world's most intimidating freshwater creatures. Now, nearly a decade after River Monsters ended, the British angler is returning to the stories that made him a television favourite — including some that never made it to air.
The 70-year-old presenter is launching Fish On! With Jeremy Wade, a new 20-episode video podcast revisiting the adventures, mysteries and dangerous encounters behind his hit fishing series.
Rather than launching another expedition-based television show, Wade is taking a different approach: looking back at what happened during production, with help from people who experienced those adventures alongside him.
What will Jeremy Wade's new podcast reveal?
The series will reunite Wade with members of the original River Monsters production team, including former collaborator Scott Tankard, to explore stories that viewers never got to see.
According to People's report on the announcement, the podcast will revisit behind-the-scenes experiences, unresolved questions and near-death encounters associated with the original programme.
That premise offers something different from a conventional reunion. River Monsters typically followed Wade as he investigated reports of dangerous aquatic animals, travelled to remote locations and attempted to identify the creatures behind local stories.
But a finished television episode could only show part of an expedition. The new podcast offers an opportunity to revisit the decisions, difficulties and discoveries that did not fit into the original broadcasts.
Why River Monsters still has an audience years after ending
River Monsters concluded in 2017 after nine seasons, but its appeal has proved remarkably durable.
The original series combined wildlife documentary filmmaking with the structure of a mystery. Wade would begin with reports of an alarming encounter, investigate possible explanations and eventually attempt to catch the animal responsible.
What distinguished the format was Wade's combination of fishing expertise, patient investigation and willingness to venture into challenging environments. The fish were often spectacular, but the search for them was just as important.
That formula has continued to find viewers online. The announcement reports that River Monsters content generated more than 1.7 billion social video views over the past year, although that figure should not be confused with unique viewers or the audience for the upcoming podcast.
For longtime fans, the new project also addresses a limitation of the original format: not every intriguing lead, unexpected setback or memorable encounter could make the final edit.
When and where can you watch Fish On! With Jeremy Wade?
The first episode of Fish On! With Jeremy Wade is scheduled to debut on Patreon on October 20, 2026, followed by a wider release on YouTube and Spotify on October 27.
The announced run consists of 20 episodes, giving Wade and his former colleagues room to explore the history of the programme beyond the familiar footage.
For anyone expecting a full television revival, there is an important distinction: the announcement concerns a video podcast, not a new season of River Monsters. No new expedition series has been confirmed as part of this project.
Still, for viewers who followed Wade into remote rivers and wondered what happened when the cameras stopped rolling, the prospect of hearing those accounts from the people who were there is a compelling reason to return.
