John Krasinski is known for a lot of things — being the husband of fellow Hollywood actress Emily Blunt, being the director of the hit horror movie series A Quiet Place, and even for his huge love of the Boston Red Sox.

However, there is one identifying factor that the star just can’t seem to shake — that he was one of the best characters in everyone’s favourite TV show, Jim Halpert from The Office.

It must have been hard being channeled into this defining role so early on in his career, but Krasinski wears it well. So well, in fact, that his own children refuse to believe that he doesn’t actually work in an office. He has 2 kids with Blunt — Violet, who is 6 years old, and Hazel, who is 8 years old.

The Super Pets actor revealed the story during his surprise appearance at The Late Late Show with Stephen Colbert recently.

“The reason I think that is because I was walking them to school one day, and this guy came up, and he was very nice, he went, ‘John! From The Office,’” Krasinski said.

“I went ‘Yeah,’ and he said, ‘Oh my god, it’s so good to see you,’ and I said, ‘Thanks’ and he kept walking.”

His daughter then rather reasonably asked if her dad worked with the stranger.

Krasinski continued: “I went, ‘No.’ And she goes, ‘Why are you lying to me?’ I went, ‘I’m not lying to you.’ She goes, ‘No, he just said he knows you from the office.’”

It sounds like the forty-three-year-old had a whole time trying to explain the much-loved NBC sitcom his kids.

He explained that Blunt, his wife, had a “head start” with getting their daughters understanding her career, because she starred as Mary Poppins in the 2018 reboot of the classic story. However, when he showed the pair the pilot episode of The Office, they had a hard time believing their father.

“My 6-year-old kept asking, ‘Is that you?’” Krasinski said. “And she says, ‘You look very different.’ I was like, ‘I’ll try not to take that as a hurtful thing,’ but sure, I say, ‘No, that’s me, I was just playing a character, and she went ‘Pfff, that’s not you.’

“Then we watched two more episodes, and she goes, ‘That’s not you. That guy looks a lot like you though!”

“I think my kids thought she had married me out of charity, like, ‘You’re so nice to marry an accountant,’ because they don’t know what I do,” he continued.

The comments section was, as always, full of fans giving their 2-cents on the scenario.

“I need John and Emily to do a full Office commentary with Hazel and Violet. I need all of Hazel’s thoughts,” one person wrote.

Another said: “Great interview… He really seems like a nice guy.”

A third found humor in the band’s choice of music: “The band is so clever sometimes with their music choices, playing Herb Alpert’s ‘A Taste of Honey.’ Jim HALPERT to Herb Alpert… Genius!!”
