Dexter Prequel Set To Show Us How He Became A Serial Killer

A Dexter prequel is on the way, and it will give fans a deeper look into the character’s past.

The first season of Dexter launched in 2006 on ShowTime and from the get-go, viewers were hooked, so much so, the show lasted for a whopping 9 seasons.

Those of you that have watched the show will know that during the day, he’s your average forensic technician, but he moonlights as a blood-thirsty serial killer who channels his urges on only those who “deserve to die.”

Dexter targets people such as killers, p***philes, and those who have caused great harm in their life, and he’s very good at it.

Well, because he works for the homicide department, Dexter is very precise at cleaning up after himself in order to not leave a single trace of the murder. Also, his killing “ritual” certainly isn’t for the faint-hearted.

Now, in the show we get glimpses of young Dexter every now and then, giving us a brief look at how he developed a hunger for killing.

But now, a decade after the show came to an end, a prequel has been announced, titled Dexter: Origins, which will follow Young Dexter, and “will be set in Dexter’s hometown of Miami, and will touch on stories of real-life serial killers of the time period”.

John Lithgow played the iconic villain known as the Trinity Killer, also known as Arthur Mitchell, in the fourth season of the original series, and he will be making a return in this spin-off.

The news comes a few years after Dexter: New Blood came out which centred around Dexter and his son Harrison.

In the shocking season finale of New Blood, Harrison kills Dexter after a dramatic series of events.

Unfortunately, nothing came of the show after the first season. According to the revival series’ creator at the time, Clyde Phillips, he said there was still a possibility of a second season.

“If they were to call me and say, ‘We want to do [a show focused on] Harrison. We want you to figure it out,’ I’m pretty busy, but I would drop everything I’m doing and jump right into it,” he told TVLine in January 2022.

While there doesn’t seem to be any update on New Blood, fans can rest assured there will be more Dexter content on the way.

Although not everyone is excited about the news, one Twitter user wrote: “Mmm idk how I feel about this tbh, to although that character was interesting I don’t think this is necessary, but I probably would check it out.”

While another said: “How about showtime and every other similar company make something new and original instead of remaking old stuff?.”

“First ruined Dexter, then ruined Dexter new blood, and now they will try to ruin Trinity? No thank you,” a third wrote.

Another agreed: “I get they want a spin-off but thus wouldn’t be a good character. If I had to do one maybe Dexter’s dad and the stuff he saw back in the day.”
