Shrek 5 Featuring The Original Cast Set To Go Ahead

It’s the news we’ve all been waiting for… Shrek fans, our time has come.

After Shrek, Shrek 2, Shrek the Third and Shrek Forever After, it looks like we are about to get a Shrek 5.

Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri revealed that DreamWorks Animation are planning to go ahead with the fifth installment of the franchise, per Variety.

It looks like the original cast are all set to reprise their roles in what is sure to be one of the most highly anticipated animations of recent years.

“We anticipate the cast coming back. Talks are starting now, and every indication that we’ve gotten is there’s tremendous enthusiasm on behalf of the actors to return,” Meledandri said.

“It’s not that dissimilar to the process that we went through with Mario, where you look at what the core elements are that audiences have loved, and you do your very best to honor those core elements,” he continued. “And then you’re hard at work to build story elements and new characters that take you to brand new places. The original cast is a huge part of that.”

Furthermore, when asked whether a movie revolving around Donkey was possible, he replied: “Without question.”

Fans have responded to the news with joy all over social media.

One person said: “Weird to say, it seems like there’s a lot of enthusiasm from Shrek fans too. Puss in Boots really was just that good, wasn’t it?”

A second agreed: “I just watched Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, and if that movie is any indication of what Shrek 5 will look like then we are in for a treat!”

Another wrote: “Amazing news. This means the dream of a Shrek + Fast and Furious crossover is still alive.”

While a fourth wrote: “I think I’ll watch Shrek the third tonight. When it first came out I didn’t give it a fair chance. Tonight that changes!”
