Hugh Jackman Opens Up About His Cancer Shock

Hugh Jackman has opened up about his recent cancer shock in a new video posted to his social media accounts.

The Australian star revealed that he has undergone 2 biopsies after his doctor found ‘little things’ that can be indicative of the most common form of skin cancer, Basal Cell Carcinoma.

Jackman is best known for his work in the X-Men movies, where he played a starring role as the iconic Wolverine.

The Sydney native is also a talented singer, a skill which he has shown off in his role in big budget musical movies such as The Greatest Showman and Les Misérables. He was even nominated for an Academy Award for his role in the latter, but missed out to Daniel Day-Lewis’ portrayal of Abraham Lincoln.

The news of the actor’s recent cancer scare comes after the actor had 6 skin cancers removed in a 2 year period starting from 2017, per the Daily Mail.

The fifty-four-year-old spoke directly to the camera as he sat with a bandage over his nose.

“Hey guys. So, I wanted you to hear it from me just in case someone sees me on the street or whatever,” he said.

“I’ve just had 2 biopsies done. I just went to my doctor, Dr. Airan, who’s awesome. I’ll find out in two or three days and as soon as I know, I’ll let you know.

“Just to remind you, Basal Cell in the world of skin cancers is the least dangerous of them all.”

He continued: “However, if I can just take this opportunity to remind you, summer is coming.

“For those of us here in the Northern Hemisphere, please wear sunscreen. It is just not worth it. No matter how much you want a tan. Trust me.”

Fans have praised Jackman for speaking out and raising awareness for the cause.

One person wrote: “I have fair and sensitive skin, and my wife and I are always cautious about putting on high SPF sunscreen before being outdoors in the summer. Thank you for advocating.”

Another said: “I stopped sunbaking at seventeen. Was burnt so badly that I couldn’t sleep for a week. For many many years I have appreciated a white, wrinkle free complexion.”

While a third wrote: “Thank you. Going through the same thing twice this month with my husband. Please, people, the sun will hurt you if you let it.”

A fourth shared: ” Make your dermatologist appointment. I had a basal cell removed in 2014 and last week had a melanoma removed. They got it all and my favourite words before the stitches were “Today you are cancer free.”
