The fatal shooting incident at the Kansas City Chiefs’ victory parade, which claimed the life of one individual and left nearly two dozen injured, stemmed from a personal dispute that escalated into violence, authorities revealed on Thursday.

Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves clarified during a press conference that the tragic episode on Wednesday afternoon near Union Station in the city had no connection to domestic terrorism or violent extremism. She stated, “Instead, the shooting appeared to be a dispute between several people that ended in gunfire.”

Graves informed reporters that among the three individuals detained by law enforcement, two are juveniles. She noted that the department has a 24-hour window to either press charges or release the detained suspects.

“We have subjects that are detained,” Graves remarked. “We are working to determine the involvement of others, and it should be noted we have recovered several firearms… This incident is still a very active investigation.”

The gunfire injured 22 individuals, including nine children, and claimed the life of 43-year-old Lisa Lopez-Galvan, a devoted Chiefs fan and mother of two. Ross Grundyson, chief of the city fire department, disclosed that eight of the wounded were initially in critical condition when emergency responders reached them. Another seven were in serious condition, with six sustaining minor injuries.

Despite the chaos, Grundyson praised the response of the first responders, highlighting their prompt action in transporting critical patients to hospitals within minutes.

The shooting marred what was intended to be a jubilant celebration of the Chiefs’ recent Super Bowl triumph over the San Francisco 49ers. Hundreds of thousands had gathered for the parade before the gunfire prompted panic.

Graves expressed frustration over the incident, emphasizing the expectation of a safe environment for celebrants. She commended the civilians who aided law enforcement during the chaotic situation, noting their selfless acts.

As the investigation continues, authorities are examining potential connections between the perpetrators and any prior criminal activity in the area. Graves reiterated the commitment to ensuring accountability for those responsible.

Footage of the aftermath depicted scenes of chaos and injured individuals being tended to by emergency personnel. Jacob Gooch Sr., one of the victims, described the shock and confusion following the shooting, recounting the harrowing experience endured by his family.
