Taylor Swift Reveals Major Change For Upcoming Eras Tour Concerts

Taylor Swift surprised her fans with a significant announcement during her recent concert in Melbourne, Australia, on Sunday.

Addressing the crowd at her latest show, the 34-year-old singer revealed a change in her approach to performing her acoustic “surprise songs” on her Eras Tour.

“That was to challenge me to really get to all the ones that I just don’t naturally gravitate towards, and I feel really proud about having done that,” Swift began, explaining her previous stance.

“But this is sort of a public service announcement to everyone who might be anywhere else on the tour, or whatever, or watching this — we have a lot of people, we’re very lucky to have a lot of people watch this on the internet and care about these shows if they’re not here,” she continued.

“I’ve just been kind of rethinking, and I’ve been thinking I want to be as creative as possible with the acoustic set moving forward and I don’t want to limit anything or say, ‘If I played this song, I can’t play it again,’” she elaborated. “So, from now on, I don’t want to take any paint colors out of the paintbox or tools out of the toolbox.”

“I want to be able to play songs more than once if I feel like it and I want to be able to make changes to songs. Does that sound OK?” she concluded.

Following Swift’s announcement, the 96,000 attendees at the Melbourne Cricket Ground erupted in applause. Swift then surprised the crowd with a mashup of “Come Back… Be Here” from her “Red” album and “Daylight” from her “Lover” album.

For her second surprise song of the night, Swift performed “Teardrops on My Guitar” on piano. This came after she delivered a mashup of “Getaway Car,” “August,” and “The Other Side of the Door” at her Feb. 17 show at the same venue.

Swift, who recently announced her new album — “The Tortured Poets Department” — at the 2024 Grammys, wrapped up her three Melbourne shows with a heartfelt message to her fans on Instagram.

“Melbourne, what do I even say to you after over 288,000 of you came and danced with us in the last 3 nights ??! That was unforgettable. You were on another LEVEL. Thank you for the memories. I’ll revisit the ones from this weekend often 🥲🫶,” she wrote on Sunday while sharing a series of images and videos from her recent Australia concerts.

Swift’s next stop is Sydney for four Eras Tour dates at Accor Stadium starting on Feb. 23.
