Meaning Behind Machine Gun Kelly’s Half Body Tattoo

Machine Gun Kelly has made headlines with his latest tattoo, a controversial piece that covers over half of his upper body, sparking a wide range of reactions from fans.

The 33-year-old rapper, whose real name is Colson Baker, has long been known for his extensive body art. However, his newest tattoo takes his ink obsession to a whole new level. Previously adorned with colorful creations including his birth year, angel and devil woman, a black raven, and his daughter’s name, MGK has now opted for a massive blackout tattoo that effectively conceals some of his beloved earlier designs.

Revealed on Tuesday, the intricate piece features a cross-shaped silhouette at its center, expertly crafted by his regular tattoo artist Roxx. Dark ink dominates the canvas of his torso, extending to the nape of his neck, while his arms also showcase black ink with subtle traces of his previous tattoos peeking through.

The decision to undergo such a drastic transformation has left fans speculating about MGK’s motivations. Despite already boasting an extensive collection of ink, the rapper’s choice to completely cover up his existing tattoos has raised eyebrows and generated curiosity among his followers.

Sharing a snapshot of his new tattoo on Instagram, MGK captioned the post with: “For spiritual purposes only. Thank you @roxx_____.” He further engaged his audience by posting additional pictures on his story, prompting fans to share their thoughts on his bold new look.

The cryptic nature of MGK’s caption has sparked discussions about the underlying reasons behind his decision. According to reports, the rapper underwent a period of soul-searching and spiritual consultation with his tattoo artist Roxx, who explained that MGK deemed his previous tattoos as “too chaotic” and not reflective of his current mindset.

The process of covering up his old artwork began in December 2023 at Roxx’s private studio in LA, spanning 13 six-hour sessions. Despite its progress, the tattoo is still not fully complete. Roxx praised MGK for his commitment to the project, labeling him as “the toughest client she’s ever had.”
