ITV axe two celebrity fronted shows as daytime schedule given huge shake-up

ITV’s daytime schedule is undergoing a significant shake-up as two breakfast shows are being axed.

Former Love Island host Laura Whitmore and Dancing on Ice judge Oti Mabuse’s morning programs will no longer be airing. Oti’s show aired on Saturday mornings, while Laura’s show was broadcast on Sundays. Both shows, named after the hosts, featured celebrity guests and live performances.

A source revealed to The Mirror: “Laura and Oti’s shows not being renewed is in no way a reflection on them – they both impressed with their hosting skills and personalities. Producers are keen to keep the slots fresh and introduce a new offering to viewers this Spring.” An ITV spokesperson also stated: “Since commissioning the weekend morning breakfast programmes, we have used these shows as an opportunity to showcase both established and up-and-coming presenters.”

While Laura and Oti’s morning programs may be ending, Oti continues to be a familiar face on ITV1 as a judge on Dancing On Ice. Laura, who is married to Love Island narrator Iain Stirling, recently fronted an investigative series for ITV.

The weekend lineup on ITV has seen significant changes recently. Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley were announced as the new hosts of This Morning, replacing Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby. Ben, bidding farewell to his 10-year tenure on Good Morning Britain, expressed his excitement for the new role, saying: “For the last 10 years I’ve been waking up with our ITV daytime audience on GMB and I now look forward to spending time with Cat, welcoming the viewers home after the school run or from their early morning routines, with a cup of tea and a mix of everything that makes This Morning so loved.”

Cat, known for hosting So You Think You Can Dance, shared her enthusiasm for This Morning, describing it as “like having your friends over.” She added: “Ben and I both know how much people love it and with the help of an amazing team of people, we’re going to do our best to take care of it.” The new hosts will debut together on March 11.

Ben’s emotional departure from Good Morning Britain was evident, with co-star Kate Garraway expressing her emotions early on in the show. Charlotte Hawkins also acknowledged the emotional atmosphere, promising to do their best to keep it together for the viewers.
