The prestigious London Clinic, renowned for discreetly treating royalty, heads of state, and celebrities, has initiated an investigation following allegations of staff attempting to access the private medical records of the Princess of Wales during her stay in January.

The claims suggest a breach of confidentiality occurred while Kate, aged 42, was undergoing treatment at the clinic located in Marylebone, Central London. It’s reported that at least one staff member was caught attempting to access her medical notes, causing shockwaves throughout the hospital.

A hospital insider stated, “This is a major security breach and incredibly damaging for the hospital, given its unblemished reputation for treating members of the Royal Family.” Senior hospital officials promptly notified Kensington Palace upon learning of the incident and assured them of a thorough investigation.

The alleged breach comes amidst speculation surrounding Kate’s absence from public view since undergoing an abdominal operation. Conspiracy theories circulated online, prompting further scrutiny. Accessing a patient’s medical records without consent is a criminal offence, whether in an NHS or private healthcare setting.

The Metropolitan Police declined to confirm whether they were informed of the allegations, while the Information Commissioner’s Office stated they were assessing the provided information.

While The London Clinic refrained from commenting directly on the claims, they emphasised their commitment to patient privacy and confidentiality. Kensington Palace responded, stating, “This is a matter for The London Clinic.”

Although Kate has chosen not to disclose the reason for her hospitalisation, it’s understood that she was made aware of the alleged incident. Health Minister Maria Caulfield has requested police involvement, stressing the seriousness of breaching patient confidentiality regulations.

The London Clinic, established in 1932, has treated numerous royals and prominent figures throughout history. Notable patients include the late Queen, Prince Philip, and Princess Margaret, along with former US president John F. Kennedy.
