Jennifer Lawrence Finally Names Director She Slept With While Filming

Jennifer Lawrence, despite her intimate involvement with the director, admits she’s still in the dark about the intricacies of one of her most notable films.

The actress gained fame portraying Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games series and earned an Academy Award for her role in 2012’s Silver Linings Playbook.

In 2017, Lawrence took on the lead in Darren Aronofsky’s enigmatic horror film Mother!, where she played a wife whose tranquil life with her poet husband is disrupted by unexpected guests.

The film’s dense layers of symbolism and atmosphere over character and plot leave many viewers scratching their heads, including Lawrence herself.

During a chat with Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live, Lawrence confessed her confusion about the movie. When asked to rate her understanding of the film on a scale of one to totally confused, she replied, “I’m going to be honest. Well, I was sleeping with the director, so I had CliffsNotes. So… five? Or a four. But if anybody needs any tips on understanding their films, you know what to do!”

Cohen’s response was cheeky, to which Lawrence replied affirmatively, acknowledging her romantic involvement with Aronofsky.

In an attempt to unravel the film’s complex narrative, Lawrence provided some insights in a 2017 interview with Deadline. She explained, “The most important thing to know about this film before seeing it is that it’s all allegory. It’s all metaphor that’s tied to this narrative. It’s the creation and decimation of the universe, including Biblical themes and creation of religion.”

Lawrence dated Aronofsky for a year before their split in November 2017. She revealed that dating the director made it challenging to detach from the film, as it was essentially his brainchild.

In an interview with Variety, Lawrence shared, “Normally, I promote a movie, ask people to go see it, and then it’s just out of your hands. I normally just kind of let it go. Dating the director was different. We’d be on the [press] tour together, and that’s all he wants to talk about, and I get it. It’s his baby.”

Since then, Lawrence has moved on, marrying art dealer Cooke Maroney in 2019 and welcoming their son Cy in February of the following year.
